I was there today and can report that a much higher percentage of the participants are here to race this year than in years past. Some really fun groups to watch. I will be on the hill overlooking Turn 3. The weather is supposed to be spectacular. Hope to see some of you tomorrow and Monday for the races and on Sunday at the car show. ]]> WatertownNewbie http://www.skippyforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6685 When is it too young for F1 http://www.skippyforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6676&goto=newpost Fri, 03 Sep 2010 02:17:20 GMT Just saw that a 16 year old was just testing for a F1 Lotus team :bowdown::bowdown: http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2010/9/11200.html Just saw that a 16 year old was just testing for a F1 Lotus team :bowdown::bowdown:

F1 Salaries http://www.skippyforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6577&goto=newpost Sun, 22 Aug 2010 02:57:29 GMT I love statistics. Take F1 for example. They've just published the annual salaries of all teams' drivers (just payroll, not including other compensation from product endorsements and the like). Here’s the list, with team, comp, and current rank in the driver’s championship. Note that #3 on the list is former champion Kimi Raikkonen, who isn’t in F1 this year but apparently is still being paid by Ferrari. (I want a meeting with his agent.)

1. Fernando Alonso Ferrari 30m
2. Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 16m
3. Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 16m
4. Felipe Massa Ferrari 14m
5. Jenson Button McLaren-Mercedes 9m
6. Michael Schumacher Mercedes Grand Prix 8m
7. Nico Rosberg Mercedes Grand Prix 8m
8. Robert Kubica Renault F1 7.5m
9. Rubens Barrichello Williams F1 5.5m
10. Mark Webber Red Bull Racing 4.2m
11. Jarno Trulli Lotus Racing 3m
12. Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Racing 2m
13. Heikki Kovalainen Lotus Racing 2m
14. Timo Glock Virgin Racing 1m
15. Nico Hlkenberg Williams F1 700,000
16. Pedro de la Rosa Sauber 500,000
17. Kamui Kobayashi Sauber 500,000
18. Vitaly Petrov Renault F1 400,000
19. Jaime Alguersuari Scuderia Toro Rosso 400,000
20. Sbastien Buemi Scuderia Toro Rosso 400,000
21. Adrian Sutil Force India F1 200,000
22. Vitantonio Liuzzi Force India F1 200,000
23. Lucas Di Grassi Virgin Racing 200,000
24. Bruno Senna Hispania Racing 150,000
25. Karun Chandhok Hispania Racing Nil
26. Sakon Yamamoto Hispania Racing Nil

So it’s clear who’s making the most. But, with two-thirds of the 2010 season behind us, the more interesting question may be, who’s delivering the best value for money so far? My initial approach was to ratio championship points against salary (“P/S”). It’s admittedly a limited measure of value, but since the #1 goal of every team is to win the driver’s championship, it’s an interesting and logical place to start.

There's been a lot of braying in the press about how Michael Schumacher has not performed up to his relatively rich compensation. The P/S ratio tells a slightly different story. With 38 championship points so far, Schumi has cost Mercedes €210,526 per point. With the same salary, Nico’s 94 points have cost Mercedes only €85,106 each. But Alonso's cosmic salary – more than Hamilton and Button together and more than the total team salaries of Red Bull, Mercedes, Williams and Virgin combined -- negates his performance advantage: he has cost Ferrari €212,766 for each of his 141 championship points.

Despite having the highest cost per point, Alonso doesn’t win the value for money booby prize. That award goes to Jarno Trulli, who has delivered not a single championship point in return for his €3 million compensation from Team Lotus. :bigcry: In fact, the €5 million total paid to Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen by Team Lotus have not garnered them any points so far. Virgin and Hispania also have zero points, but they’ve spent less on their lack of success.

Who has delivered the best value for money? Most people would probably guess Sebastian Vettel, who has racked up 151 points so far in return for his relatively paltry €2 million salary – just €13,245 per point. Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber has also been very efficient; the current leader has cost Red Bull only €26,087 per point. But top honors for value go to Adrian Sutil of Force India, whose 35 championship points so far have cost his team only €5,714 each. Force India also takes the prize for most cost-effective team, spending only €400,000 in salaries for the 47 points racked up by Sutil and his teammate Vitantonio Liuzzi.

Cost Per Point:
Sutil € 5,714
Vettel € 13,245
Liuzzi € 16,667
Petrov € 23,529
Webber € 26,087
Kobayashi € 29,412
Buemi € 57,143
Button € 61,224
Hulkenberg € 70,000
de la Rosa € 83,333
Kubica € 84,270
Rosberg € 85,106
Hamilton € 101,911
Alguersuari € 133,333
Massa € 144,330
Barrichello € 183,333
Schumacher € 210,526
Alonso € 212,766
Trulli #DIV/0!
Kovalainen #DIV/0!
Glock #DIV/0!
Di Grassi #DIV/0!
Senna #DIV/0!
Chandhok #DIV/0!
Yamamoto #DIV/0!
